Marguerite Elizabeth “Peggy” Feathers Harper 1922-2013

IRONTON — Marguerite Elizabeth “Peggy” Feathers Harper, 90, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.

The Watauga, Tenn., native was born Dec. 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Anthon Andrew Feathers and the late Mattie Bowen Feathers Carver. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ervin Harper.

Mrs. Harper was a 1940 graduate of Huntington (W.Va.) High School and attended Marshall University and the Booth Business College. She was a homemaker, a former key-punch operator for Ashland Oil and a dealer/manager for Tupperware. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton, where she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the parking lot committee and worked in the nursery for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Collis P. Huntington Historical Railroad Society.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Nathanial Jackson Feathers, Thomas P. Carver and Robert “Bob” Carver; and three sisters, Betty Carver Jordan, Evelyn Jane Feathers and Hilda Carlisle.

She is survived by four children, Susan Harper, Charles “Chuck” (Becky) Harper and Becky (Kent) Stewart, all of Ironton, and Marilyn Harper of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va.; four granddaughters, Sara Harper of Lexington, Ky., Katie (Andrew) Walker of Newport, Ky., Laura (Andrew) Keffer of Huntington and Audrey Stewart of Ironton; and two sisters, Mary Carver Ball of Pensacola, Fla., and Judy (Bob) Carver Cross of Indianapolis.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton by Minister Phil Lemaster and Minister Brent Baker. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
