GREENUP — Frederick C. DeLong, 79, of Russell, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Our Lady Of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.

Mr. DeLong was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Hokendauqua, Pa., to Louis C. and Ruth Hartman DeLong.

Fred graduated cum laude with a mechanical  engineering degree from Lafayette College in 1972. He was a lifetime member of Tau Beta Pi. Mr. DeLong was involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout leader. Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland, where he was also a choir member. Mr. DeLong was also a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the ACC Community Choir and the Singing Kernels. He volunteered at the community kitchen for many years and also tutored at the Federal Correctional Institution. Fred served in the U.S. Army in 1953 during the Korean War. He retired as maintenance superintendent with Ashland Oil.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Humphreys DeLong. In addition, Fred leaves behind two sons, David Robert (Chloe) DeLong of North Augusta, S.C., and Michael L. Delong of Paris; one daughter, Linda M. (Jim) Dollar of North Augusta; four grandchildren, Kevin M. and Nicole A. DeLong and Kristin M. and Jessica E. Dollar; one brother, John (Grace) DeLong, of Pennsylvania; and one sister, MaryAnn Gauglar of Pennsylvania.

The funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today, March 17, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland with Pastors Garrett Bugg and Jennifer Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call an hour before the funeral services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Presbyterian Church Music Management Fund, 1600 Winchester Ave., Ashland KY, 41101.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
