Memorial service to be scheduled
PINEHURST, NC —
Betty Childers Thomas, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Pinehurst, N.C., on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.
Betty was born Feb. 14, 1935, in White House, to Edna and Fon Childers. She spent her childhood in Gallup, graduated from Ashland Senior High School in 1953, and attended classes at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
She married her lifelong partner and best friend, Roger C. Thomas, on Dec. 31, 1953, at First Methodist Church in Ashland. After his graduation from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va, they resided in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Utica, Mich., Roanoke, Va., Louisville, Brentwood, Tenn., York, Pa., Atlanta, Ga., Youngstown, Ohio, Nashville, Tenn., and Boston, Mass., before settling in Pinehurst in 1996. While residing in Pinehurst they wintered in Sarasota, Fla. She happily referred to her profession as “domestic engineer.”
While in Pinehurst, Betty was active in FirstHealth of the Carolinas Volunteer Services. Her smiling face could often be seen greeting and assisting patients in the Outpatient Surgery Center. She was a member of the Pinehurst Country Club and Pinehurst United Methodist Church. Betty was passionate about animal rescue and deeply loved all of her four-legged friends and that feeling was always reciprocated.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger Thomas; son, Michael and wife Cathy of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Terri Cvetko and husband Tony of Fountain Inn, S.C.; grandchildren Adam Thomas and wife Lacy of Flint, Texas, Lauren Tomas Clark and husband Curtis of San Antonio, Texas, Rachel Thomas of Arlington, Texas, and Morgen and Jared Cvetko of Fountain Inn, S.C.; and great-grandchildren, Lola and Henry Clark of San Antonio.
The memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
