Wells Moore - 1953-2014

WHEELOCK, TX — Wells Moore, 60, of Wheelock, Texas, passed away March 3, 2014. He is mourned by many friends and family members. He will be remembered for countless reasons, not the least of which were his easy‑going personality and caring, compassionate nature.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jane and Orville Moore Jr., and his older brother, Jim.

Wells achieved his lifelong ambition to be a cowboy, from rodeoing at a young age, to owning a herd of horses, to working as a ranch manager for many years. At the time of his death, he worked at the Texas Engineering Extension Service as a senior maintenance technician at Brayton Fire Field. Wells was a veteran of the U.S. Army where, during his service, he saw 14 countries during 13 years. Among other military duties, he served as a recruiter and was on funeral detail during the tumultuous Vietnam War years.

Wells always had a sense of fair play and a ready smile for everyone. He turned serious when he saw a wrong done to any person or animal. He had a wealth of experiences — coal mining in Kentucky, traveling the world as a serviceman, becoming a masterful electrician and refrigeration tech and being a caring and compassionate father. He was extremely proud of his son and remained close to him throughout life.

Wells will be greatly missed. He is survived by a son, William Wells Moore of College Station, Texas; four sisters, Marie and husband Pete, Becky and husband Stoney, Rosemary and husband Kenny, and Gail; three brothers, Greg and wife Audrey, Perry and wife Sherry and Arlis and wife Debbie; his sweetheart, Rhonda Brinkmann; and many close friends.

This world will be a sadder place for Wells’ absence. Godspeed, cowboy.

Born March 10, 1953, in Ashland, Wells will be buried in Kentucky.

Funeral services will be at noon Sunday, March 9, 2013, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood. Burial will be in Old Field Cemetery in Greenup County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Donations in Wells’ memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
