Mildred “Midge” Gray

LEXINGTON — Mildred “Midge” Gray, 93, of Lexington, passed away suddenly on Dec. 27, 2013, after a brief illness.

She was born in Omar, W.Va., to the late Charles and Pearl Terry Cossett.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Gray Sr.; and brothers Jim, Jack and Ray Cossett.

She is survived by her brother, Don Cossett (Page) of Sanford, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Cossett of Ashland and Jo Cossett of Chattanooga,Tenn.; her children, Clarence E. Gray Jr. (Janice) of Ashland, Paul V. Loar II (Audrey) of Austin, Texas, Terri Clere (Don) of Conyers, Ga., Clarice Jayne Gilbert (Dan) of Lexington and Holly Riggs (Jim) of Lexington; grandchildren David Gray (Linda), Anita Smith (Aaron), both of Ashland, Dr. Paul V. Loar III (Kim) of Austin, Traci Bledsoe (Tom) of Jefferson, Ga., Chris Clere (Belle) of Auburn, Ga., Jodi Rae Bailey (Shay) of Warner Robins, Ga., Bruce Clere (Kim) of Powder Springs, Ga., Bethany Sams (David), Katlyn Green (Stephen), Jarin Riggs and Jacob Riggs (LaShawna), all of Lexington. She leaves 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Midge lived a very active life. She lived many years in Ashland, where she worked for Sears and Roebuck. She was formerly a member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland, where she served as the librarian and sang in the choir. She was a member of Big Hill Christian Church and  actively involved in the Friendship Sunday school class,  “Happy Christians,” senior’s ministry and widows group.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Milward-Man O’ War Funeral Home, 1509 Trent Blvd. in Lexington. Burial will be at  2 p.m. Monday at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.   

Pallbearers will be David Gray, Dr. Paul V. Loar III, Chris Clere, Bruce Clere, David Sams, Jay Sams, Jonathan Sams, Stephen Green, Jacob Riggs and Matt Weikel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anita Smith, Traci Bledsoe, Jodi Rae Bailey, Bethany Sams, Katlyn Green and Jarin Howard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Hill Christian Church building fund, 1150 Goggins Lane, Richmond, KY 40475.
