Russell D. Pridemore, 74, of Flatwoods, went to be with the Lord June 25, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, with his family by his side.
Russell was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Mingo County, W.Va., to the late Ofrey and Ollie Ooten Pridemore.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Truda Vance; one brother, Jimmy Pridemore; and a son-in-law, Rick Grubb.
He worked as a cable splicer for GTE where he retired with more than 20 years of service. He attended Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church. Russell enjoyed hobbies such as traveling, hunting and fishing. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Cincinnati Reds baseball, UK basketball, and the Russell High School Football team. Russell was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Loretta “Sue” Toppins Pridemore of Flatwoods; two daughters, Connie (Rick) Jones of Flatwoods and Karen Grubb of Flatwoods; one son, Michael (Doretha) Pridemore of Ashland; five grandchildren, Richard (Natalie) Jones, Jason (Katie) Pridemore, Matthew (Whitli) Pridemore and Cody and Cory Grubb; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Dylan and Tanner Jones, and Grady Pridemore; and a host of special nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with words of comfort delivered by Pastor Danny Brown. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, June 27, at the funeral home.
Pallbears will be Jason Pridemore, Matthew Pridemore, Cody Grubb, Cory Grubb, Brett Vance, Jack Vance, David Runyon and Clifford Runyon and honorary pallbearer is Richard Jones.
