Roger L. Kersey, 65, of Flatwoods, passed away on Monday, June 24, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
He was born on March 26, 1948, in Ashland, a son of the late Harlan Jr. and Virginia Workman Kersey Mays.
Roger retired from AK Steel as a quality control inspector with 35 years of service, was a member of the Smith Masonic Lodge 775 F & AM, American Legion Post 325, a Kentucky Colonel, a coach for the Russell-Flatwoods Little League, and Russell-Flatwoods Babe Ruth League for 18 years, was an avid golfer, loved UK sports, and the Cincinnati Reds.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Collins Kersey; two sons, Lee (Shanna) Kersey of Hazard and Eric (Jessie) Kersey of Raceland; a daughter, Cammie Morrison of Ashland; five grandchildren, Tyler, Makenna, Dawson, Rylan and Brady; two brothers, Dave (Billie) Kersey of Russell and Jeff (Karen) Kersey of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Sue (Steve) Lyons of Grayson and Diane Hart of Lawrenceburg.
The funeral services will be at noon Friday, June 28, 2013, in Lazear Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Ceredo-Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, June 27, 2013, with a Masonic service to be at 7 p.m at the funeral home.
Those serving as pallbearers are Benny Woods, Jack Goody, Mike Sexton, Claude Moore, Malcolm Frasure, Jeff Frasure, Steve Hines and Chris Holbrook. Flowers will be graciously accepted; however, if you choose, donations may be made in Roger’s name to, The American Cancer Society, 4324 13th St., Ashland, KY 41101.
