Gertrude Elizabeth Staten 1917-2011

LAGRANGE — Gertrude Elizabeth Staten, 94, passed away into the hands of her beloved Lord on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, in The Richwood Nursing Home in LaGrange. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 3, 1917, to Charles Fields and Elizabeth (Booth) Fields Spurlock in Catlettsburg.

She was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church in Ashland, Ocala, Fla., and LaGrange and was a mighty prayer warrior for all whom she met.

Gertrude will be remembered for many things, most of all her love of the Lord and concern that others also receive His saving grace. She was a humble person, always loving, smiling and giving to others in need. As a devoted mother and wife, she raised two sons and supported her husband as he operated service stations in Ashland and Aberdeen, Ohio.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton L.; three brothers, Cecil, John and Robert; and two sisters, Hazel and Marie.

The family would like to express grateful appreciation to the staff and residents of The Richwood for the devoted care, friendship, love and prayers for our mother during the last 61⁄2 years as she struggled with Alzheimer’s disease and to all at LaGrange Assembly of God who showed concern and love and prayed for Mom.

She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers, James of Clovis, Calif., and Jack of Holiday, Fla.; sons Carroll M. Staten and wife Loleda of Alpharetta, Ga., and Eugene B. Staten and wife Jackie of Crestwood; three grandchildren, Steven B. Staten, Richard C. Staten and Angela D. (Staten) Hoggan; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland followed by a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Shields of First Assembly of God in Ashland officiating. Burial will be immediately following at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be sent to The Richwood Activities Department, 1012 Richwood Way, LaGrange, KY 40031 or LaGrange Assembly of God, P.O. Box 114, LaGrange, KY 40031.
