Laurence “Larry” Berscheit Jr. 1951-2014

SHELBYVILLE —  Larry was born Nov. 17, 1951, in Cabell County, W.Va., a son of the late Laurence Alphonse Sr. and Eva Killin Berscheit. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Berscheit Sturgill.

He was a 1970 graduate of Holy Family Catholic School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated in 1977 from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He retired in 2005 as an investigator in the Special Investigations Unit for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Office of Attorney General, after 28 years of service. Most recently, he was a claims and fraud investigator with Ohio Casualty Group in Lexington. He was a member of Clarence Fields Post 76 American Legion in Ashland and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Berscheit of Lexington; a son, Jon Berscheit of Fort Mitchell; his longtime companion, Missy Cole of Ashland; a sister, Minta Kaye Berscheit of Russell; two grandchildren, Audrey Rendon and Emma Rendon; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, by Father John Noe at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.  

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and one hour before the service Monday at the church.
