Paul Charles, 80, of Smith Branch Road in Greenup, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at his home with his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Daniels Charles, at his side. His son, Jonathon (Debra) Charles of Lloyd and his daughter, Rosanna (Gary) Caudill of Lloyd, were also at his side, along with two of his grandsons.
Although not at his side, but in his heart were his daughters, Josetta (Terry) Moore of Portland, Tenn., Alene Charles of California and Mary Sue Porter (Brandon) Cowles of Cleveland, Tenn. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three brothers, Ashton Charles of Ashland, Jim Charles of Greenup and Fred Charles of Pikeville; and three sisters, Jenny Cumberidge of Ventura, Calif., Beulah Charles Jennings of Bowling Green and Catherine Smith of Cynthiana.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Charles and George Charles Jr.; and three sisters, Mildred Charles Fields, Rosemary Charles and Augusta Charles Smith.
Mr. Charles was born Feb. 21, 1933, at McVeigh, a son of the late George and Hester Fiffe Charles.
Paul retired from the Greenup County School District and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, where he worked in the maintenance departments. He was also owner of the former Charles Restaurant in Lloyd for 10 years.
He attended the Church of God. Paul’s mission in life was to tell everyone to read the Bible and to pray daily. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Wurtland Church of God by Bishop Tim French and Bishop Henry Montgomery. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County, with military rites by American Legion Post 23 of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and an hour before services Friday at the church.
