Thomas Albert Allemang 1940-2014

ASHLAND — Thomas Albert Allemang, 73, of Ashland, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 22, 1940, in Ashland, the son of the late Albert W. and Muriel Turner Allemang. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Graham.

He was a graduate of the Ashland Public School System in 1958, attended the Ashland Center of the University of Kentucky (ACC), received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Union College and earned a master of arts degree from Southern Illinois University. Tom was a former teacher at Mount Vernon Community College and returned to teach at Ashland Community College in 1966 and retired from there with 31 years of service. He also taught at Ohio University Southern Campus in Ironton with 29 years of service. He was involved in drama at ACC, as both director and actor. He was co-advisor to the Alpha Phi fraternity from 1967 to 1974. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Chancel Choir, served on various administrative boards and taught the Upper Room Sunday school class. He was a member of the Ashland Lions Club, where he earned the title of Grand Old Monarch, Lion of the Year in 1991 and served the club in many capacities including King Lion during 1984-85.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Wanda Hood Allemang; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Street. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland and after noon Saturday at the church.
