Talmadge Whitt - 1935-2014

RUSH — Elias Talmadge Whitt, 79, of Rush, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, following an extended illness.

Talmadge was born April 13, 1935, in Boyd County, to the late Charles and Sarah Sturgill Whitt.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Horn Whitt; a son, Greg Lowe; five brothers, Forest L. Whitt, Charles Whitt, Jack Whitt, Ken Whitt and Arnold Whitt; four sisters, Betty Dixon, Monnie Ethel Whitt, Joann Whitt and Opal Morgan; a grandson, Jason Lowe; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Clark.

He retired from operations at AK Steel. He attended Fellowship (Reedville) Christian Baptist Church and was a member of Steelworkers Local 1865.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas Whitt and wife Teresa of Ashland, Bryan Whitt and wife Beverly Carol of Grayson and Barry Whitt and wife Tonya of Rush; a sister, Bernice Dixon of Westwood; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; a special niece, Edie Bowen of Columbia, S.C.; and numerous extended family and friends.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev Bryan Whitt and the Rev. Shawn Whitt. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 5, 2014, at the funeral home.
