James E. Fout 1928-2012

ASHLAND — James Edward Fout, 84, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Mr. Fout was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Otis Emerson and Nell Gulker Fout. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Fout Moorhead, and brothers-in-law John Moorhead and Robert Trimmer.

Mr. Fout retired from Ashland Oil with more than 34 years of service as group vice president of marketing for Ashland Petroleum. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland and a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he played quarterback for the 1945-46 football team. After his retirement from Ashland Oil, he, with his wife, devoted a lion’s share of time to volunteer work. As co-founder of River Cities Harvest, he volunteered his time every week. He was also the founder of the Ashland Oil Retirees group and was a member of Bellefonte Country Club. He served in many capacities with the Ashland Tennis Center, also serving on the ATC Commission from 1985 until his death.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Scott Fout of Ashland; a son, James Scott Fout and his wife, Susan, of Ansonia, Conn.; a daughter, Carol Fout-Zignani and her husband, Dino, of Finchville; a sister, Mary Margaret Fout Trimmer of Piqua, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue by the Rev. John Street. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth.
