Charlene Harris

RUSSELL — “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Those were the words that Charlene Fritz-Harris, 88, of Russell, heard in the early morning hours of Friday, July 4, 2014, while in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Mrs. Harris was born Sunday, June 6, 1926, in Oldtown, to the late John Thomas and Willi Temperance Hannah-Fritz.

Charlene was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Thurman; a granddaughter, Alison Nicole Pope; five brothers, Curt, Thomas, Hubert, Paul and Leonard Fritz; and two sisters, Lorena Brown and Artie Firsterman.

A woman of faith and the heart of the family, Charlene shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example, and also through various church groups and activities while a faithful member at the Wurtland Methodist Church and later at Advance Memorial United Methodist Church in Flatwoods. Charlene loved caring for her family and friends through her passion for cooking/baking from scratch, especially her scrumptious custard pies. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and loved antiquing.

Left behind to cherish her memory is a loving daughter, Judyth Ann Kelly and her husband, Dave, of Columbia, S.C.; a grandson, Richard Harris Pope and his wife, Jen, of Charleston, S.C.; three great-grandsons, Tyler Harris, Brandon Alexander and Matthew Nicholas Pope; a brother, Dennis Fritz of Raceland; a devoted and loving sister-in-law, Sara Fritz of Ashland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Advance Memorial United Methodist Church, 1007 Bellefonte Road, Flatwoods, with Pastor Mark Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of her granddaughter, Alison Nicole Pope, are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Lexington by visiting shrinershospitalsforchildren.org.
