Shirley Cordle Stapleton 1922-2014

ASHLAND — Shirley Daniels Cordle Stapleton, 91, of Westwood, Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 14, 2014.

She was born May 11, 1922, in Chandlersville, a daughter of the late Francis Elcanah and Carrie Ramey Daniels.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Douglas “C.D.” Cordle, and her second husband, Cecil Stapleton; six brothers, Leonard Ray Daniels, James Bascom Daniels, Letha Ralph Daniels, the Rev. Landon Taylor “LT” Daniels, Harold Lee Daniels and Earl Junior Daniels; five sisters, Hazel Green Berube, Nancy Mildred McKenzie, Fannie Imo (Jean) Johnson, Bernice Phillips and Erlene Daniels; and a grandson, Timothy Lee Cordle.  

She was a homemaker and a 65-year member of Westwood United Baptist Church.

Shirley is survived by a sister, Phyllis Howard of Ashland; three sons, Darrell (Betty) Cordle of Avondale, Ariz., Darvin (Betty) Cordle of Westwood and Reid Cordle of Oil Springs; two daughters, Sharon Hall of Lexington and Nancy (Jim) Isham of Westwood; a stepdaughter, Doris (Jack) Francis of Catlettsburg; nine grandchildren, John Douglas Hall, Roger Dale (Kelli) Cordle, Bronson Douglas (Tonya) Cordle, Robert Jason Hall, Tommy Lee Cordle, Travis Dean Cordle, Shelley Leigh (Donnie) Greer, Carrie Francis (Randy) Satterly and Jaclyn Michelle Wheatley; two stepgrandsons, Jack (Lisa) Francis Jr. and  James (Sandra) Francis; a stepgranddaughter, Jeannie Francis; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Daniels of Ashland and Delores Miller of Willow Run, Mich.; a lifelong and dear friend, Hobart Lemaster; close neighbors Lily Porter and George and Janie Kazee; and a host of family friends who will miss her greatly.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Westwood United Baptist Church by Elder J.D. Riggs. Burial will be in Marvin Sparks Cemetery at Old Hood Church in Blaine.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland.
