DUNMORE, PA — Walter Kaplen, 95, of Melrose Park, Pa., died Friday morning in Holy Redeemer Hospital Hospice in Meadowbrook, Pa. His wife, the former Constance R. Rubin, died in 2006.

He was born Dec. 19, 1918, in New Brunswick, N.J., a son of the late Solomon and Pauline Cherkis Kaplen. He was also preceded in death by two brothers.

He was a graduate of New York University and the Philadelphia College of Optometry. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his daughters, Debbie Kaplen-Feller and husband Gadi of Israel and Ruth Egel and husband Dr. James of Russell; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at noon Sunday at Temple Isarel Cemetery in Dunmore, Pa., by Rabbi Daniel Swartz.
