Alberta Gevedon 1933-2013

ASHLAND — Alberta Mae Riffe Gevedon, 79, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.

Alberta was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Greenup, a daughter of the late James Paul and Alma Campbell Riffe. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers.

Mrs. Gevedon was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church in Ashland. As an active Baptist her entire life, she served in many capacities. She was very active in the youth programs, fellowship ministry and served on the bereavement committee. She was active with the Junior Woman’s Club, having served as president and state chairman. She was instrumental in the development and construction of the Cerebral Palsy School in Ashland. She was treasurer of the Paramount Women’s Association for many years. She was a member of the Ladies of the Highlands and a supporter of the Highlands Museum. During her children’s school years, she was very active in many school functions in the Ashland Independent School District.  

She worked as a bookkepper with her son in his medical practice for many years.

Survivors include her husband, E.B. “Sonny” Gevedon Jr. of Ashland; a son, E.B. Gevedon, M.D., of Ashland; a daughter, Gina Lynn Gevedon McDaniel and husband Thomas F. McDaniel, D.M.D., of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Emily Campbell McDaniel, Kerri Joann McDaniel and Natalie Claire McDaniel; and a brother, Franklin Riffe of South Charleston, W.Va.

A private graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Jim Nichols. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of food and flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Wildwood Baptist Church Youth Group, 3414 Charles St., Ashland, KY 41102.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.
