William Fredrick “Bill” Scott 1937-2014

ASHLAND — William Fredrick “Bill” Scott, 77, of  Cannonsburg, passed away June 17, 2014, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.

He was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Catlettsburg, to the late Clarence E. and Faye James Scott. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gregory Alan Scott in 2008.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Boyd County, and a 1955 graduate of Boyd County High School. Through the support of his many friends, Bill was elected Boyd County Commissioner and served in that capacity for eight years. He then retired with 34 years of service at Armco Steel after being elected Boyd County Judge-Executive, a post in which he served 12 years. He was a member of El Hasa Shrine and Rush Masonic Lodge 714 F&AM. He served honorably in the National Guard and was a civic leader, serving in many organizations over the years. Bill was baptized in the Little Sandy River and was of the Baptist faith.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Harriet Cornett Scott of Cannonsburg; a daughter, Kelly Scott Ackerson and husband Darrell of Cannonsburg; brothers, Donald Eugene Scott (Maxine) of Fort Myers, Fla., and George Gary Scott (Sheryl) of Catlettsburg; grandchildren, Scott L. Williamson (Jonda) of Cannonsburg and Sean G. Williamson of Louisville; great-grandchildren, Cole and Drew Williamson and Madison Taylor; as well as a host of loving extended family and friends.  

The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Dicky Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.  

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  

Friends may make contributions in his memory to a charity of their choice.
