Ruth Elswick Kinner - 1917-2014

ASHLAND — Ruth Elswick Kinner, 97, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.   

She was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Catlettsburg, to the late Denver and Susan Ross Elswick. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell D. Kinner in 1987; a sister, Pauline E. Kennard; a brother, Billy Carson Elswick; and her son-in-law, Kenley E. Dobyns.  

Ruth graduated from Ashland High School in 1936, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother and she loved to travel.  

She is survived by her daughters, Janet K. Dobyns and Josette Gibson, both of Ashland; a special niece, Judith K. Little of Ashland; a granddaughter, Diana D. Allen and husband Rodney of Huntington, W.Va.; and a great-grandson, Austin E. Allen of Huntington.  

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum with Chaplain Randy Tate officiating with burial in Ashland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at the mausoleum chapel.

In lieu of flowers friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.

Steen Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
