James Estes “Hutch” Hutchinson 1954-2013

Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel

ASHLAND — James Estes “Hutch” Hutchinson, 58, of Ashland, passed away Jan. 29, 2013, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born Aug. 7, 1954, to the late Paul Hutchinson Sr. and Sarah May Conley Hutchinson.

He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and a 1972 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School. He retired from AK Steel after three decades of service. He was a master carpenter and a member of the Masonic lodge.

Jim had a bigger than life personality. His booming voice and roaring laughter were infectious. He engaged everyone in conversation with his magnetic stories that always came to life with energetic hand gestures and a boisterous demeanor. You always knew when Jim entered the room — his charisma could never be forgotten. He loved convertibles and sunny summer days, but he had an even greater love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, James Benjamin “Benji” Hutchinson of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Paul Hutchinson Jr. of Ashland; a sister, Paula H. Webb of Ashland; and a host of loving extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland by Dr. Floyd Paris and Dr. Rob Lockhart.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asked to make contributions to Unity Baptist Church, 2320 29th St., Ashland, KY 41101 or the University of Kentucky Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at uky.edu/pattersonschool/giving.htm.
