Denver Lee Ratliff 1930-2013

GREENUP — Denver Lee Ratliff, 82, of South Shore, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.

He was born July 11, 1930, at Sunshine, to Darlena Timberlake Ratliff and the late Alex Ratliff.

Denver worked out of Carpenters Local 437 and Pipefitters Local 248. He retired as a crew leader working as an iron worker for Empire Detroit Steel/Cyclops. He was a member of the Church of God and a 60-year member of Harrison-Fullerton Masonic Lodge 937. For the last 45 years he owned and operated a beef cattle farm on Lower White Oak Road and spent time as a salesman for his son’s dealership, Ratliff’s Used Cars of South Shore.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael Tinsley.

Denver is also survived by his wife of 65 years, Vivian Stewart Ratliff; a son, Steve (Rita) Ratliff, a daughter, Beverly (Terry) Potter and a daughter, Teresa Tinsley, all of South Shore/South Portsmouth, and a son, Joe Ratliff of Lexington; six grandchildren, Nicki Tinsley (Mike) Whitley, Ami Ratliff (Kris) Bartee, Kyle Potter, Emily Tinsley, Adam (Molly) Ratliff and Julie Potter (Jonathan) Byrne; four great-grandchildren, Alison Whitley, Remington Bartee, Adalyn Whitley and Tayte Ratliff; and a brother, Boyd (Betty) Ratliff, and a sister, Geneva Ratliff (Bob) Evans, all of South Shore.

A private graveside service was Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, by the Rev. Acy Gibson at Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore was in charge of arrangements.
