James Edmond Dyer - 1990-2013

IRONTON —  James Edmond “Eddie” Dyer, 22, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington after battling cancer.

He was born June 30, 1990, in Huntington, W.Va., to James and Darlene Dyer.

He attended England Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Campbell Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and Sunshine Free Will Baptist church regularly. He graduated from South Point High School, where he was lettered in football, and obtained certification as a heavy-equipment operator.   

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Russell and Gladys May; his paternal grandfather, Fred Dyer; an uncle, Arnie May; and a cousin, Miles Paxton.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Barney Dyer; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Amanda and Andrew McCormick of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Alexis Dyer of South Point; three nephews, James Creighton Dyer, Richard Kelley Jr. and Michael Kelley; mother-in-law and father-in-law Emory and Cindy Barney of Ironton; grandmother and grandfather Betty and Bill Morris; a special aunt, Florence May; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Eddie is also survived by Shane and Shawn Frieze, two of his best friends since childhood. He enjoyed many special times with Shane and Shawn and enjoyed their company.  

During his battle with cancer, he stayed at Hope Lodge in Lexington, Ky., where he met and befriended many. Also, during his battle with cancer, he doctored with an amazing doctor, Dr. Dennie Jones at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center. Eddie stayed strong throughout his battle with cancer and had a positive outlook on life through his Savior, Jesus Christ. Eddie knew through his faith in the Lord he was a winner either way, whether he went or whether he stayed.    

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at England Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Catlettsburg by Pastor Willie May. Burial will be in May Family Cemetery in Huntington.  

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church at 10201 Mayo Trail Road in Catlettsburg.

Reger Funeral Home in Huntington is in charge of  arrangements.
