Sam Longshore Jr. - 1924-2010

FLATWOODS — Samuel Longshore Jr., 86, husband of Helen Virginia McBrayer Longshore of Flatwoods passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 following an extended illness.

Sam was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Greenup County, to the late Samuel Sr. and Lorena Willis Longshore.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Allied Chemical as a chemical operator foreman. He was a charter member of Bethel Lutheran Church, a member Smith Lodge 775 F&AM, (Scottish Rite) Indra Consistory — Valley of Covington and the El Hasa Shrine.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, James Longshore, John Longshore, Thomas Longshore, Harold Longshore, Bob Longshore and Homer Longshore and three sisters, Betty Lucille Browenlee, Verna Burgess and Donnalee Potter.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Virginia McBrayer Longshore of Flatwoods; a daughter, Elizabeth Susan Baugh of Louisville; a granddaughter, Erin Marie Baugh Justice of Louisville and two great-grandchildren Nathan Justice and Cadence Justice.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Pastor Norman Staker. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.  

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Scottish Rite services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. by officers and brothers of Ashland Scottish Rite Club. Masonic services will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. by officers and brothers of Smith Lodge 775 F&AM.
