Vera Virgin - 1915-2012

RACELAND — “Aunt Vera,” 96, of Raceland, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She left this world to go teach the little children in heaven.

Ms. Virgin was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Oldtown, the daughter of the late Virgil and Della Bays Virgin.

She was a retired teacher who spent 20 years in the Greenup County School District and 22 years in the Russell Independent School District, from which she retired in 1976.

She was a graduate of Morehead State University and a member of Oldtown Christian Church. She was also a member of local, state and national retired teachers’ associations, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Honorary Society for Women Educators and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department.

She is survived by a nephew, whom she raised, Dick Hutton and his wife, Bonnie, of Raceland; two great-nieces, Rhonda Grubb of Flatwoods and Vicki Blankenship of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a great-great-niece, Rachel Grubb; and three great- great-nephews, Daniel Grubb, Shannon Large and Tanner Blankenship. She also leaves behind numerous other beloved nieces, nephews and family members.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 30 at Oldtown Christian Church by Pastor Doug Virgin. Burial will be in Virgin Cemetery in Oldtown.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and after noon Friday at the church.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oldtown Christian Church or Kentucky Christian University in Grayson.
