Gilbert Ross “Scobie” Shaffer - 1942-2013

GRAYSON — Gilbert Ross “Scobie” Shaffer, 71, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 19, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.  

He was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Carter County, a son of the late Ed and Gladys Bradford Shaffer.

Scobie was a member of the Bricklayers Union for several years, a contractor, owner of Shaffer’s Restaurant for more than 20 years and owner and President of S&S Ready Mix and Pre-Cast, which was established in 1992. Scobie was a member of the Grayson and Olive Hill Chamber of Commerce and was saved and baptized under the ministry of the Rev. James Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Freeman, Paul and Ronnie Shaffer; and one sister, Ruby Ann Shaffer Evans.

His survivors include his wife of 51 years, Aline Stephenson Shaffer; two sons, Tim (Lillie) Shaffer and Steve (Francie) Shaffer; three grandchildren, Matthew Shaffer, Dustin (Courtney) Shaffer and Halley Shaffer; one stepgranddaughter, Paige (Josh) Waggoner; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Mia Waggoner; and a multitude of close family and friends.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with the Rev. James Harris officiating. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.  

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
