Lucille Tackett - 1911-2014

ASHLAND — Lucille Tackett, 103, left this world on April 19, 2014, to begin her eternal life wrapped in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to join her loving husband, Luther, who preceded her in death.

Lucille was born March 8, 1911, in Olive Hill, to Evan Joseph Morgan and Brentha Alice Gee.  She was also preceded in death by Luther, her husband of 65 years, in 1995; a daughter, Eva Bernice Branham, in 2001; a grandson; two sons-in-law; six brothers; and three sisters.

Surviving Lucille are three daughters, Wanda Langley of St. Claire, Pa., Dottie Caskey of Orrtanna, Pa., and Jetta Machin of Glen Rock, Pa.; four granddaughters; four grandsons; 23 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild.

Lucille and her husband moved to Ashland from Olive Hill in 1932.  She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene for 79 years. She was a choir member, Sunday school teacher and missionary worker. She retired from Stars Clothing Stores after 18 years. She moved to Unity Square in 1997, where she started a weekly prayer service in her apartment. Shortly thereafter, attendance grew, requiring larger accommodations. Services were then conducted in the recreation hall of the building. After Lucille moved from Unity Square, the church continued to thrive.

Lucille moved to Orrtanna to live with her daughter, Dottie, in 2014. She resided there until moving to The Village of Laurel Run in Fayetteville, Pa., for rehabilitation in March.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Mike Amos and the Rev. Jack Edwards. Entombment will be in the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
