Emma Jean Large Wellman - 1919-2012

ASHLAND — Emma “Granny” Wellman, 92, of Ashland, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 2, 2012, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility surrounded by her loving daughters and granddaughters. Emma's walk in life with her Lord was, and will be, forever a testament to her deep love and faith for Christ.  

Emma was born in Lawrence County on May 5, 1919, a daughter to the late Harrison and Ella Triplett Large.  

She was married 41 years to Claude Wellman until his death in 1977.  

Emma was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lealon and Leonard Large; a grandson, Luke Wellman; a granddaughter, Claudia Caproni; and special son-in-law, John E. Gallion.  

Her home was blessed with three children, a son, the late Dean Wellman, and two daughters, Joy Gallion and Susie Patton, both of Ashland. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Gwen (Randy) Everman, Sheila (David) Caproni, Kim (Rick) Clay, Chris (April) Cordial, Brianna Patton, Jeff (Shelly) Wellman and Erica Gallion.  Emma is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.  

A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland with Brother Sheldon Wheeler officiating and Kenny Musser assisting.  Burial will follow in the Large Family Cemetery at Webbville.

Pallbearers will be Gwen Everman, Jeff Wellman, John David Caproni, Rick Clay, Travis Wellman and Chris Cordial. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Everman and David Caproni.  

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at the funeral home.
