Clyde I Blevins, 77, of Westwood, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, after a short illness.
Born in Ashland, he was the son of the late Millard and Myrl Cassity Blevins.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Jean Blevins Brown.
He attended Fairview Junior High and graduated high school from Russell in 1954. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany for two years and was a retired welder from Armco Steel after 34 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Ray Blevins; daughter Jane McClelland and husband Jack Jr. of Catlettsburg; son, Jerry Blevins and wife Shelli of Ashland; step-grandchildren, Candace, Adam and Lindsay Ferguson and Tyler McClelland; a niece, Janet Brown Wente; nephew, Mark Brown and their children, Lindsay and Josh Brown and Ryan and Rebecca Wente; sister-in-law, Sharlene Blackburn of Inez; there were three special neighbor girls he viewed as granddaughters, Laiken and Charlee Hobbs and Katlyn Gumbert, as well as many loving friends he has met through his years of service and travels.
Clyde was a passionate man who lived life to the fullest. He dedicated his life to many philanthropies with the Shriners Hospitals for Children being the most dear to him. Clyde was always a willing mentor to new Masons and Shriners and their families. Other great accomplishments include Charter member of Fred M Gross Masonic lodge, past potentate of El Hasa Shrine, recorder emeritus of El Hasa Shrine, past president of the Recorders Association of North America, life member of the El Hasa Motor Corp, Oriental Band, A Team and Director’s staff, member emeritus of the Shrine Hospitals for Children Colorado Corporation, Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Covington, Royal Order of Scotland, Sword of Bunker Hill, Kentucky colonel, past Imperial Raban of Hillbillies, past Camaxtli of the Order of the Quetzalcoatl, Demolay Legion of Honor, Order of Knights, Eagles and Tigers, past president of El Hasa Cabiri, member of Knights Eternal, member of The American Legion Post 76, life Member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 350, early organizer of the Westwood Fire Department and past president of the Westwood Lions Club.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 25, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood with Tim Holmes a close family friend conducting the services. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Memorial Park with military services by Huntington American Legion Post 16.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic services will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Pall bearers will be Mark Brown, Johnny Dixon, Jack McClelland Jr., Tom Hobbs, Kevin White and Mike Dalton.
