Claude “Cecil” Howard Sr. - 1925-2012

ASHLAND — Claude “Cecil” Howard Sr., 86, of Ashland, passed away on March 25, 2012, in Cornerstone, St. Mary’s Medical Center.  

He was born on April 17, 1925, in Pike County, and moved to Ashland when he was eight years old, the son of the late Lundy and Polly May Howard.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Howard Hill; brothers, Hasel Howard, Samual Howard, Willis Layne and Howard Justice; and sisters, Beulah Howard Boyd and Virgie Layne Smith.   

He retired from Ashland Monument Co. and was a ham radio operator, licensed in 1988, Call # KC4GNI.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bertha Boyd Howard; four sons, Claude Cecil (Rebecca) Howard Jr., Kenneth Lee (Rhonda) Howard, Timothy Jay (Pam) Howard and Lundy Edward (Angela) Howard, all of Ashland; three daughters, Patricia Ann Baldridge and Sabrina (Joe) Stone, all of Ashland, and Carlotta (Randy) Wallace of Venus, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Charles Howard of Ashland.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with Pastor Danny Goins officiating.  Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.  

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
