Roosevelt “T.R.” Douglas of Ashland, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, following a brief illness.
T.R. was born in Greenup to the late Harvey and Verna Douglas.
He was a 1965 graduate of Boyd County High School. He retired from the Boyd County Detention Center, where he worked for 24 years and was the chief deputy jailer. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. T.R. loved to fish in the local pay lakes for catfish.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Douglas and Herman Douglas, and a sister, Carolyn Fannin.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Connie Douglas; two daughters, Tracy Hale (Adam) and Amy Shepard (Frank); three grandchildren, Morgan McCoy, Isaac Shepard and Landon Hale; a brother, Frank Douglas of Rockport, Mich.; a sister, Barbara Shaffer of Ashland; and many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be a private graveside service at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 24, 2014, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County, with military honors by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of T.R. Douglas to the Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Residents Fund, 12100 Princeland Spur, Ashland, KY 41102.
