Hoy H. Lewis - 1929-2014

RACELAND — Hoy H. Lewis, 84, of Raceland, passed from this Earthly life on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at home and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Born in North Carolina on June 20, 1929, he was one of 12 children to the late William “Jape” and Cora Webb-Lewis. Hoy was retired from Armco Steel, where he worked for many years as a foreman. He was a member of the Raceland Lions Club and the Gideons. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served his country proudly and honorably.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Oreta Allen-Lewis; a son and daughter-in-law, David Jay and Mary Lynn Lewis; a grandson-in-law, Rich Robinson III; three brothers, Conway, Howard and Claude Lewis; and four sisters, Tessie Hopson, Bertha Tilley, Geneva Honeycutt and Pansy Oaks.

Hoy leaves behind a loving and devoted family to cherish his memory, including his son, John and Donna Lewis of Raceland; a grandson, Joey and Lacy Lewis of Raceland; a granddaughter, Johnda Lewis-Robinson of Ashland; two great-grandchildren, John Mark “Jack” Lewis and Claire Aline Lewis; two brothers, Boyd and James Lewis; two sisters, Cassie Bacon and JoAnn Ledford; and many great friends and church family.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Raceland Christian Church at 210 Caroline Road. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Raceland Christian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Carman Funeral Home of Flatwoods.
