COAL GROVE — Jean (Imogene P. Pemberton) Fayne, 86, passed away Jan. 18, 2014, at her home in Coal Grove.

She was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Coal Grove, to Ernest and Maude Riedell Pemberton. She was baptized at Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church.

Jean grew up in Coal Grove and attended Coal Grove High School. After high school, Jean married her only love, Charles C. Fayne, and together they raised three beautiful daughters, Gloria Jean, Lana Dee and Cathy Jo. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Jean enjoyed working as a waitress at Don Keys Restaurant for 12 years. Later, Jean was a member of Ironton Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 895 and an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8850. Her exceptional cooking and baking skills brought joy to family and friends. Jean was a champion shuffle board player who loved to fish and was an epic card player and favorite corn hole partner to her grandchildren.

Jean’s greatest passion in life was dancing. She danced every weekend at Senior Citizens Centers in Flatwoods and Greenup and was always the life of the party. She got dressed up to go dancing, as she did every Friday night. She was ready a bit early, so she grabbed a cookie and sat in her favorite chair. She closed her eyes for the last time.

Jean loved life, stayed strong and active to the end and left with grace. She was a remarkable woman who motivated and inspired all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed by her daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.

Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her sisters, Betty Turvey, Ruth Frische and Jane Pemberton; and a brother, Keith Pemberton.

Jean is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Ed Davis of South Point, Lana and Tim Kuhn of Hollidaysburg, Pa., and Cathy Jo and Tim Olson of Pedro; grandchildren Craig Tibbs, Kimberly Tibbs-Duncan, Robbie Roberts, Sean Davis and John Tibbs; great-grandchildren Amanda Roberts, Alexie Adkins, Natasha Tibbs, Jake Adkins, Carrie Beth Davis, Ericha Roberts, Corey Tibbs, Emily Davis, Alex Tibbs, Brooke Tibbs, Charlee Duncan, Luke Davis, Allison Tibbs, Drew Roberts, Reese Duncan and Brock Roberts; great-great-grandchildren Makayla Roberts and TaiVon Mestel; sisters Alice Barber and Charlotte Clark; a nephew and close friend, Eddie Fayne; three stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and special friends Henry Kimbler, Janet Bentley and Midge Browing.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton by the Rev. Sallie Schisler. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
