Thomas Sulser Smith (1926-2010)

Thomas “Tom” Sulser Smith of Russell, Ky. died March 3, 2010, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital with his wife and loved ones by his side. He was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Newport, Ky., to the late William R. and Mary Curry Smith Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Gail Price Smith.

Mr. Smith grew up in Ft. Thomas, Ky., and graduated from Highlands Ft. Thomas High School before joining the Army Air Corps and proudly serving during WWII. Following service, he attended the University of Kentucky and never wavered from his loyalty to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Tom was owner and agent of Price-Smith Insurance Agency for over 50 years and was proud to serve the community. He was active in the Rotary Club, serving as President, and was made a Paul Harris Fellow by its members for his service to the club. He was a board member of the First & Peoples Bank and Trust Co., a member of Calvary Episcopal Church and a former member of the Board of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Above all Tom was a true gentleman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William R. Smith III; and a sister, Mary Stull.

He is survived by a brother, Bob Smith and wife Noelle of Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. William R. Smith of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Doll and husband John Crockett of Louisville, Ky.; nephews, John and wife Elaine Crockett and Tom and wife Cindy Crockett, all of Louisville; nieces Susan Culpepper of Columbus, Ga., Kathy Barton of Roanoke, Sheryl Stull of Akron, Ohio, Sue Oplinger of Akron and Kelly Neuroth of Ingleside, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Calvary Episcopal Church, 1337 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY with the Rev. Jeff Queen officiating.
