Nancy Mae Deer Bailey 1936-2014

FLATWOODS — Nancy Mae Deer Bailey, 78, of Flatwoods, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at her residence.  

Mrs. Bailey was born March 5, 1936, on Short White Oak Road in Flatwoods, a daughter of the late James A. and Ruth E. Cordle Deer.  

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd C. “Sonny” Bailey; a son, Troy Dale Bailey; a daughter, Pamela Kay Crittenden; two sisters, Maxine L. Perry and Janice A. Deer; and a grandson, Brandon Lucas Bailey.

She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a charter member, congregational song leader and Sunday school teacher at the Pentecostal Holiness Tabernacle in Flatwoods. She was one of the original members of the quartet The Shoutin’ Mommas, who sang and traveled with the late Rev. Bennie Grizzle.  

She is survived by two sons, Lloyd (Cathy) Bailey of Greenup and Terry (Kim) Bailey of Raceland; two daughters, Debra C. Gambill of Flatwoods and Tina R. (Jerry) Kazee of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Gary W. Deer of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters, Diane L. Deer and Brenda J. Burkett, both of Flatwoods; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.  

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at Pentecostal Holiness Tabernacle by the Rev. J.E. Smith and the Rev. Mike Nichols. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.  

Friends may call  from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
