Vic Henderson

ASHLAND — Vic Henderson, 72, of Bristol, Tenn., passed away Oct. 23, 2013, in Wellmont Hospice House after a courageous three-year battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Crown City, Ohio, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Sheets Henderson. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and attended the University of Arkansas. He was a former member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne and a current member of the American Legion.

He had owned and operated many businesses in his career, including South Point Homes in Ohio and Virginia, Bix Mobile Home Supply in West Virginia, Suzuki of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Weathermaster Housing Development in various locations in Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia. He also owned and sold Fix-it RV prior to his retirement. Vic also owned and operated his own truck, transporting chemicals for Transport Services and FedEx.

Mr. Henderson loved reading, camping, riding his motorcycle and piloting a small plane, and was best remembered as loving to travel in his RV and having a smile on his face, coming or going. He loved gospel music and bluegrass, and in his later years he enjoyed having famed Doyle Lawson and his wife, Susan, as neighbors.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Herschel Sheets, Mattie Sheets, Christopher “Clum” Henderson and Grace Henderson; and several uncles and aunts from Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Robertson Henderson; children Robert V. Henderson of Atlanta and Stacie McCray and husband Jason of Bristol; grandchildren Aubrey and Judson McCray; sisters-in-law Bonnie Pino and husband Pete of Lebanon, Va., and Susan Jacob and husband Dick of Eads, Tenn.; an aunt, Wanda Sheets Henderson of Proctorville, Ohio; a devoted canine, Daisy Mae; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 24, 2013, at Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol by Pastor Jack Stevens. A committal service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers include Rob Henderson, Jason McCray, Pete Pino, Dick Jacob, Tom Gentry, Bob Chafin, Bob Jones, Allen Hodge, Ken Cox and Emmett Moore.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.
