Richard A. Macomb III 1932-2013

BELLEFONTE — Richard A. Macomb III, of Bellefonte, passed away in Trinity Station with Hospice care.

He was born Aug. 8, 1932, in King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland to the late Richard A. Macomb, formerly of Virginia, and Gladys Barret Macomb of Boyd County.

Richard worked in the industrial engineering department and human resources at Armco Steel and retired with more than 32 years. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was an avid fan of the wildcats. His hobby was woodworking and he was an excellent refinisher. He also loved to feed the birds and enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching them, especially the “hummers.” Richard was very proud that he had a part in accomplishing Emergency Service for Greenup County while formerly serving as mayor of Bellefonte for 16 years, and prior to this he served as a trustee. He also enjoyed being chief cook for the Wednesday morning prayer breakfast. He was an Air Force veteran serving for four years during the Korean conflict. He also served in the National Guard prior to this.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 56 years, Ruth Reynolds Macomb, formerly of Woodfork; his son, Richard “Rusty” A. Macomb IV of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and daughter Melanie Macomb Wangsness (J.D.) of Miller, S. D.; and grandchildren, James Bennett Wangsness “Ben” and Jaidyn Hope Macomb.

The funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at The Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stewart Schneider officiating. Richard served as an elder of the church in the late ’80’s and also in the ’90’s. Internment will be in the Rose Hill Burial park with military rites by the U.S. Air force and the Kenova American Legion.

Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Community Presbyterian Church or Community Hospice of Ashland.

The family wishes to thank Trinity Station and Community Hospice of Ashland for all their help, kindness and sympathy shown.
