DELAND, FL —
David B. Kinner, 89, of Deland, Fla., formerly of Greenup, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2013.
He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Greenup, the son of John David and Lona Taylor Kinner.
Mr. Kinner was a veteran of World War II, and carried the distinction of being one of the rare Navy Scouts and Raiders. The Scouts and Raiders were the forming concept of what would later become the Navy Seals. After his service discharge, Mr. Kinner joined his father to run the family business, J D Kinner and Sons Lumber Co. in Greenup. In 1974, he retired and moved to Largo, Fla., then in 1989 to Deland, Fla.
Mr. Kinner was preceded in death by his wife, Lois H. Kinner in 2010; his parents; two brothers, Robert and Elwood of Greenup; and a granddaughter, Lori Ann Blair.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Barker (Kenneth) of Worthington and Jean Blair (Bob) of Deland; grandchildren, Lisa Barker of Lexington, David Barker of Worthington and Taylor Blair (Angela) of Leander, Texas; four great-granddaughters, Kendal Barker of Worthington, Amy Barker of Lexington and Emily and Catherine Blair of Leander, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Greenup Presbyterian Church. Jack Edwards will officiate.
