WORTHINGTON — Steve S. Spinda, 84, of Worthington, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, to finally be reunited with his loving wife, Shirley Guthridge Spinda who passed away in 1991.  

He was born Aug. 30, 1929, in DuBois, Pa., a son of the late John and Frances Parsalek Spinda. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by eight siblings.

Steve was a member of Holy Family Church, where he had served as an usher. He was a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus and was a Kentucky colonel. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and retired after many years of service with CSX.

Survivors include three sons, Steve Anthony Spinda of St. Mary’s, Pa., Scott David Spinda of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Shawn Michael Spinda of Ashland; two daughters, Sheila Ann Spinda of Flatwoods and Staci Marie Ward of Lancaster, Pa.; a brother, John Spinda of Raceland; grandchildren, Angela Spinda, Maria Spinda, Kristi Spinda, Scott Spinda, Renee Spinda, Katie Spinda, Ryan Spinda and Ashley Ward; and great-grandchildren, Kylee, Christian and Skyler Waugh and Jade Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Holy Family Church in Ashland with Father John Noe officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland, where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 93 of Kenova.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 18, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. There will be a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
