Robert Lee Salyers Sr., 73, of Wurtland, went to be with his Lord and Savior by his confession of faith before his death on April 1, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell after a short illness.
He was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Elliott County, to the late Elihue and Clarice Elva Salyers.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee Salyers Jr.; sisters Peggy Sue Salyers and Wilma Clark; and brothers Larry, Rodger and Stanley Salyers.
He retired from AK Steel and was an avid drag race car enthusiast. He was the best father, brother, grandfather and friend in the world.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth “Beth” and John Neal; his wife, Peggy Salyers; his companion of 25 years, Vicky Baker; a son by choice, Michael (Natasha) Baker; grandchildren Dustin Sampson, Shana, Shane and Kayla Salyers and Ava and Acacia Baker; great-grandchildren Aiden and Nico; sisters Carolyn Stapleton, Audrey Dotson and Deborah Nash, all of Franklin Furnace; brothers Ralph, Darrell and Dannie Salyers, all of Franklin Furnace; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Plymouth Height Church of the Nazarene in Franklin Furnace by the Rev. Tom Spradlin. Interment will be in Haverhill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
