The Rev. Charles Milam 1927–2013

ASHLAND — With open arms, his Heavenly Father welcomed home the Rev. Charles L. Milam Jr. on Thursday, March 28, 2013. His loving family surrounding him as he left this life in Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland.

The Rev. Milam, born Feb. 11, 1927, in Montcoal, W.Va., was the only son of the late Charles L. Sr. and Ethel Linville Milam. He met the love of his life, and wife of nearly 65 years, Mrs. Ruth Lorene Reid Milam, and they were united as one on June 12, 1948. The Rev. and Mrs. Milam were blessed with four children, Larry Milam and his wife, Cathy, of Ashland, Greg Milam and his wife, Debbie, of Walnut Grove, Ill., Chris Milam and his wife, Cindy, of Flatwoods, son-in-law Bruce Lowe of Raleigh, N.C. and their daughter, the late Debra Lowe. Additional family members include six grandchildren, Heather Milam, Michelle Milam, Greg Milam II (Kristi), Shawna Walker (Ike), Michael Patton (April) and Brian Lowe; and seven great-grandchildren, Kayla Milam, Grant Milam, Jordan Milam, Adrianna Luna, Terrell Milam and two who reside in Australia.

The Rev. Milam served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Upon returning home he graduated from Concord College and South Eastern Seminary where he earned a doctorate of divinity and doctorate of theology. The Rev. Milam, a devout servant of the Lord, pastored many churches throughout the years, retiring from Wilson Creek Baptist Church in 2001. A member of the Paintsville Kiwanis and a Kentucky Colonel. Golf was a favorite recreational pastime of his continuing well into his 80’s.

Services for the Rev. Milam will be at 11 a.m. Monday April 1, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg on Midland Trail Road in Ashland, with a message of homecoming by the Rev. Stan Williams. Final rest will be in Highland Cemetery in Staffordsville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg and one hour prior to service time Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg, 11512 Midland Trail Road, Ashland, KY 41102, Kingsbrook Lifecare Center, 2500 Ky. 5, Ashland, KY 41102, or Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
