Imogene Delong Carter, 83, of Flatwoods, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Imogene was born Nov. 24, 1929, to the late Curtis and Nora Lee ‘Honeycutt’ Delong.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bridges Christian Church since 1958. She had a passion for drawing, painting, sculpting ceramics, an avid bird watcher and she also enjoyed volunteering for the Flatwoods Senior Citizen Center, but most of all she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.
Besides her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Doug Delong, Orville Delong; and a twin sister, Allene Delong Hyden.
She leaves behind a loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Benjamin Carter; daughters, Brenda (Gary) Frasher of Beckley, W.Va., Bennie Cookie (Phillip) Bowling of Flatwoods, Sherri (Terry) Short of Lloyd and Rita (Michael) Moore of Garrett, Ind., one brother, Seldon (Sarah) Delong of Van Lear; sisters Alka Mae Boggs of Flat Gap, Juanita (Charles) Litteral of Westwood; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special sister-in-law and friend, Jenny Carter; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with words of comfort delivered by Pastor Mark McKinney. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
