Mr. Dannie Allen Shumate, 69, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday evening, March 30, 2013, at his residence.
He was born July 31, 1943, in Carter County, a son of the late Frank and Faye Knipp Shumate.
Dannie was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was retired from Kentucky Electric Steel after 43 years of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was retired from the Olive Hill National Guard, having served for more than 20 years. Dannie enjoyed horse riding, hunting, watching UK basketball, going to Walker’s and spending time with his family.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Lewis Shumate, on Nov. 6, 1997; and a son, Nathan Greenhill, on Sept. 24, 1993.
Dannie is survived by his wife of 11 years, Brenda Holloway Shumate; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryant and Tammy Shumate of Mount Sterling; two daughters and a sons-in-law, Vanessa Shumate of Indianapolis and Miranda and Ryan Tussey of Grayson; five grandchildren, Bryana Shumate, Matthew Shumate, MaKaylen Kiser, Chaseton Tussey and Treven Tussey; and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother James Muncy and Brother Lyle McMicken. Burial will be in Olive Hill Memorial Park, with military rites by Olive Hill American Legion Post 138.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, April 2, 2013, and until time of services Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
Homer Stamper, Danny Gilliam, Larry Hensley, Chris Perry, Troy Conn, Buddy Baker, Kevin Williams and Larry Stamper will serve as pallbearers.
