ELLIOTT COUNTY — Lucille Ross Mason, 85, of Elliott County, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Halcom, in Elliott County, the oldest child of the late Dave and Jewell Sparks Ross.

She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Allan Mason.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 and a half years, Lowell Mason; a daughter, Martyne Mason of Elliott County; and a son, Steven Mason and Carol of Ashland; one brother, Edgar Ross and wife Ann of Lexington; two sisters, Geneva Ross McKee of Monroeville, Pa., and Evelyn Ross McFarland and husband, Jack of Franklin, Ohio. Also surviving, an aunt, Junius Sparks Fraley of Portsmouth, Ohio.

She was a teacher in the Elliott County school system of the early 1950s and later a homemaker who was deeply devoted to her immediate and extended families. She loved her husband, her children, roses and other flowers and stray animals who found their way into her heart, especially her cat, Kitty.

 In later life, she suffered from Alzheimer’s and found a second family in the staff at the Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook, whose care for her is deeply appreciated by her husband and children.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Burial will be in the Elliott County Memory Gardens.
