Jesse “Edward” Carter 1922-2013

GREENUP — Jesse “Edward” Carter, 91, of Flatwoods, passed away Jan. 28, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland with his family by his side.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1922, in New Boston, Ohio, to the late Jesse and Nora Scaggs-Carter.

He was an engineer for the C&O Railroad who retired after many years of service. Edward was a member of First Baptist Church of Russell and Smith Lodge 775, F&AM. Edward enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading, collecting clocks and watching Westerns. He was an avid Cincinnati baseball fan.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Levine Carter and Donald Carter.

Edward leaves behind a caring and devoted family, including his loving wife of 24 years, Alma “Jean” Carter; three brothers, George M. (Virginia) Carter of Raceland, Billy “B.I.” (Marlene) Carter of Kingsbrook and Benjamin F. (Imogene) Carter of Flatwoods; stepchildren Priscilla (Kurt) of Dublin, Ohio, and Michael (Rita) Moore of Garrett, Ind.; four stepgrandchildren, Melanie (Jeremy) Church, Stephanie Moore, Eric Taube and Melissa Taube; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Nora Lynn Church.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor Ken Gowin and Roger Caleb. Smith Lodge 775, F&AM, will present a Masonic service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.  

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
