Edward Gumbert, 89, of Raceland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, surrounded by his caring family.
He was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Wurtland, a son of the late Joseph and Tillie Litteral Gumbert.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Herb Gumbert, and two sisters, Dorothy Logan and Dora Archie.
Edward was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired carman with the C&O Railroad. He was a member of Brotherhood Railway Carmen of America.
In addition to his loving wife, Betty Braden Gumbert, Edward is survived by two sons, Eddie (Belinda) Gumbert of Bellefonte and Mike (Marylin) Gumbert of Raceland; a daughter, Karen (Johnnie) Virgin of Raceland; two sisters, Nancy Scott of Jacksonville, Fla., and Elsie Boll of Pedro, Ohio; and a brother, Joe Gumbert of Wurtland.
Military graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 11, 2013, by Kenova American Legion Post 93 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.
