ASHLAND — Richard “Dick” Jacobs, 78, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Sunset Nursing Center in Coal Grove, Ohio.

He was born July 8, 1934, in Ashland, to Richard Elmer Jacobs and Dorothy Dixon Jacobs.

He worked in construction as a laborer and attended Crum Chapel Church.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lee Smith Jacobs, his parents; and two brothers, William Franklin “Bill” Jacobs and Wayne Jacobs.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Jacobs of Ashland; a brother, James “Toge” Jacobs of Flatwoods; a sister, Bonnie Davis of Greenup; his niece and caregiver, Hope Lemaster of Ashland; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Bill Smith. Burial was in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County, with military rites by Ceredo-Kenova American Legion Post 92.
