Janet Yvonne Franklin Cornwell, 76, of Catlettsburg, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Cornwell was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Catlettsburg, a daughter of the late William and Charlene Moore Franklin.
Janet was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 47 years, James C. Cornwell, in 2007; brothers Les Franklin and Robert Franklin; and a brother-in-law, Vernon McPeek.
She worked several years as a cook at the Burnaugh BP station. Janet loved cooking, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Left behind to cherish memories are her children, Kenny Cornwell and his wife, Peggy, of Catlettsburg, and their children, Brad Cornwell and Taylor Cornwell; Tommy Cornwell of Catlettsburg; Donita Lynn Bellomy and her husband, Robert, of Catlettsburg, and their children, Alisha Bellomy and Brandon (Tori) Bellomy; and Melissa Dawn Simpson and her husband, Robert, of Ashland, and their children, Kyle Simpson and Megan Simpson. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Alexus, Olivia and Aiden; brothers Pat Franklin (Linda), of Pedro, Ohio, Mike Franklin of West Virginia and Jeff Franklin (Gidget) of Catlettsburg; sisters Sue McPeek of Catlettsburg, Minnie Dearborn (David) of Indiana, Judy Gullett (Richard) of Catlettsburg and Becky Black of Catlettsburg; a sister-in-law, Stella Franklin of Catlettsburg; and a very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tiny and Frank Hatten of Kenova, W.Va.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cornwell will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg by Pastor Mike Amos. Final rest will be in Black Cemetery on Cyrus Drive in Catlettsburg.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
