Fred S. Elkins - 1930-2013

FLATWOODS — Fred S. Elkins, 83, of Flatwoods, passed away Aug. 22, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.

He was born July 5, 1930, in Wurtland, a son of the late Bernie and Lilly Heaberlin Elkins. He was also preceded in death by sisters Dana Elkins, Elsie Sammons and Jean Crump and a granddaughter, Micah Renae Bays.

He was the owner of Continuous Spouting and Gutters in Flatwoods, and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Raceland.

Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Barbarette Tackett Bays Elkins; children of his first family: a son, Fred D. and Tudie Elkins of Bitley, Mich.; daughters Cathy and Dale Harshbarger of Sarasota, Fla., and Sharon Diedrich and Darrell Roach of Sebring, Fla.; grandchildren Missy Darwin of Michigan, Heather and Adam Wilkinson of Bitley, Josh Diedrich and Luke Roach of Sebring and Jason Diedrich of Michigan; and great-granddaughter Jordan Elkins of Michigan; children of his second family: sons Mark and Myrna Bays of Greenup and Mike Bays and Liz Kitchen of Wurtland; a daughter, Cindy Bays of Wurtland; a special friend, Patty Williams of Wurtland; a grandson, Jarrod and Vanessa Bays of Flatwoods; a great-grandson, Dalton Michael Bays of Flatwoods; brothers Lilburn and Peggy Elkins of Roswell, Ga., Don and Mona Elkins of North Fort Myers, Fla., Marvin and Jo Ann Elkins of Spring Lake, Mich., and Herb Elkins of St. Augustine, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland by the Rev. Phillip Nunley and the Rev. Tom Heaberlin. Burial will be in Heaberlin Cemetery in Wurtland.

Visitation for family and friends will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
