Richard “Dick” Logan Wyant

ASHLAND — At the age of 68, Richard Wyant passed away on Feb. 10, 2011 from AL- Amyloidosis.

Richard was born and raised in Ashland, and later moved to Houston, Texas then finally residing in Wilmington, Del. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Eloise Kitchen and Herman K. Wyant of Ashland.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech, and a master’s in healthcare administration. As a proud member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 1964 and a captain in the Army during the Vietnam War, Richard had true patriotic pride and actively followed the political scene. He was an avid golfer, tennis player and bowler. He enjoyed fishing and was a huge fan of Elvis. As a child, Richard was a part of the Babe Ruth Little League baseball team and contributed to the Central Park Baseball Field Fund where he played. Richard’s laughter and witty humor could fill a room with happiness. He will be deeply missed and will forever be known as the only man who could catch a fish with a hotdog.

He is survived by his wife, Alexandra “Alec” Cordova Wyant and their two children, Brady and Sydney. Also surviving are children, Hallie Wyant, Jessie Wyant McCabe, Natalee Wyant Gingles, and Richard Logan-Giles Wyant. He is also survived by his cousins, Nancy Jo Stewert, Willa Barker, and Nina Fields who reside in Ashland. He was the loving grandfather of eight girls and two boys.

A memorial service for Richard will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 17 at noon at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Wilmington, Del.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the family’s convenience.
