OLIVE HILL — Mr. Ernest Wells, 93, of Olive Hill, passed away Friday evening, March 22, 2013, at his residence.

He was born April 18, 1920, in Carter County, a son of the late Charles and Bertha Jarvis Wells.

Ernest was of the Christian faith and attended St. Johns Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grayson. He was a member of the 160th Engineer Combat Battalion Company C and served in the U.S. Army from 1938 to 1945. Ernest served in five major European battles during World War II. He was a quarry foreman at Acme Stone in Olive Hill for 33 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Cleo Krohn Wells; two sons, David Allen Wells and Randall Lee Wells; three brothers, Orville Wells, Robert Wells and Charles Wells Jr.; and three sisters, Gladys Roe, Madge Crawford and Edna DeLaney.

Ernest is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Sue Wells of Worthington and Lindsay and Drema Wells of Olive Hill; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandy Wells of Olive Hill, Barbara and Jim Brewer of Ashland and Shelia and Wayne Jones of Olive Hill; nine grandchildren, Dean Wells, Jim Bob Rucker, Jolinda Case, David Wells, Allen Wells, Randi Wells, Jessica Robinson, Jake Burchett and Jessica Craig; 14 great-grandchildren, Tiffany Wells, Ashley Wells, Michael Wells, Michael Conley, Marcus Artrip, Hayden Wells, Gray Wells, Olivia Robinson, Mason Robinson, Eli Burchett, Ayden Harper, Dawson Craig, Baylee Craig and Connor Craig; eight fifth generation, great-great-grandchildren, Savannah Wells, Colton Johnson, Phoenix Wells, Zoey Wells, Alyiah Wells, Lily Wells, Christian Conley and Brayden Conley; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Joy Wells and Cecil and Virginia Wells, all of Mansfield, Ohio. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Gary Sparks, Brother Clyde Holbrook and Brother Allen Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Wells Cemetery on Three Pine in Olive Hill with full military rites conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, and until the service hour on Tuesday at funeral chapel.

Ernie Wells Jr., Lindsay Wells, Dave Wells, Allen Wells, Jim Rucker and Wayne Jones will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Wells, Michael Wells, Jimmy Wells, Michael Conley, Marcus Artrip, Tom Jones, Vernon Adkins, George Bill Jordan, Jack Tackett and Larry Porter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
